Incredible Edible Wrecsam

Free Food to Share

An informal network of self-organising individuals and groups growing free food to share. In 2015 we joined with the Incredible Edible Network, where the membership is: ‘If you eat, you’re in’ 🙂

Our growing methods focus on stockfree organic growing except on the allotment where the group there uses horse manure and where we use council compost which isn’t organic. We currently don’t add any pesticides and use natural fertilising methods such as mulching, no dig gardening and other permaculture methods to help feed the soil.

The following are our main Incredible Edible Wrecam sites, with other sites also dotted about the county with free food for anyone to harvest. Can you help? Whether it’s gardening, site management, volunteer management, event organising, funding applications, admin, website design, seed growing, litter picking, food distributing, weeding, simply coming to bring your smile, there is something for you.

Mount Street

Harry kneels to weed the vegetable bed
Our first site was Mount Street, next to the Nag’s Head in town. A lot of people put a lot of work to transform this space, now known as ‘Harry’s Garden’

Wrexham Glyndwr University

Students plant out into the vegetable bed
Wrexham Glyndwr University offered us a space and the students made it happen. This expanded to help with the Technique Science Garden on this site.
Some of the work on this site can be found here

Rhosddu Park

Cartoon bunting hangs over raised bed
Thanks to Keep Wales Tidy for the funding for herbs and berries at Rhosddu Park
Two children dig in the soil
Our next site was Madeira Hill, special thanks to these two that helped so much. Right next to St. Giles School, it makes sense that kids had a lot to do with this site!

The Allotment

The allotment is filling up and the greenhouse is being built
Price’s Lane Allotment – we were able to tend during lockdown and beyond to help provide food for local community projects that provide food for the homeless.

Cefn Mawr

A rainbow in the sky over the Cefn Mawr Activity Centre
